As I always say, the most flattering hairstyle has more to do with personality than anything else. Playing up your uniqueness with a hairstyle is much more important than the color or texture of your hair. But because we all want to look and feel our best and no one wants a bad hair day, factoring in the shape of our face should also be a consideration. In this post, you will learn about choosing the right hairstyle for your face shape.
Finding a stylist who can help you discover the right style for you can make you look professional, casual, cutting edge, older, or even younger. Even a well cut hairstyle can be a disaster if it’s on the wrong face shape, though. But you should also keep in mind that, just because you see a style you like in a fashion magazine or on someone else, it doesn’t mean that style will work for you.
The style should minimize your less favorable facial attributes while promoting and complimenting positive ones. If you have a round face shape, the object is to add length and avoid width.
Hairstyles with height and fullness at the crown will give the illusion of a narrower face shape, while longer hairstyles or ones that are kept close to the cheeks with no width will look better. Parting your hair in the middle creates the illusion of narrow length.
Hairstyles that add volume through the sides, such as chin length bob cuts, should be avoided by those who have a round face, though, and Side parts and thick, straight across bangs create a wider, shorter shape and should be avoided.
If your face is more of a square shape, your main goal should be to soften your strong jaw line. Wispy hair that falls forward onto your face will soften your jaw line and bangs that sweep over to one side of your face will create diagonal movement that minimizes square shapes. Avoid blunt bobs, especially those ending at chin length with straight heavy bangs and middle parts with solid bangs can also be detrimental to a flattering look.
As always, the right stylist can do more for you than any single hairstyle choice you make on your own. Call me today so we can figure out your face shape and find the right hairstyle for you!
